Shalina Resources Ltd is founded. It acquires the Usoke plot of land in the industrial zone of Lubumbashi and begins trading with the export of heterogenite (cobalt ore), small-scale mining and mineral processing. CHEMAF is registered at Lubumbashi as the operating arm of Shalina Resources. The business uses retained earnings to begin construction of Pilot Plant 1 'PP1' on the Usoke plot in order to produce copper and cobalt carbonate. Record high prices for cobalt quickly enable the company to reinvest profits to invest in the factory and start value added production.
